Naming Brody

Here’s an online contest from RushPRnews.com to give Adrien’s Bloom character in ‘The Brothers Bloom’ a first name.  Apparently, his character doesn’t have one.  You could possibly win premiere tickets in either L.A. or N.Y.!

The director of the movie, Rian Johnson, knows about us and he thinks it’s a cool idea, but this is a completely independent contest from the movie and has no connetion to the movie per se or the studio. Just so you know. So far 4 names have come in:

    Brandon Bloom
    Ka Bloom
    Bombadil Bloom
    Aloisius Bloom

We are looking for silly names OR serious names, any names that you think would be good and fitting for Brody’s character! So far, we have not been able to contact Adrien, anyone know his email addy or his agent’s?

    Brody to the Max!

First name “contest” for Adrien Brody’s
first-nameless “Bloom” character in “The Brothers Bloom” gains steam

As you know, Rian Johnson, director of “Brick”, has a
new film coming out very soon, with festival screenings now going on
around the world, and the movie is called “The Brothers Bloom”. It’s
called that because there are two brothers in the movie, and their
last name is Bloom. Mark Ruffalo plays Stephen Bloom, a con man
extraordinaire, and …[DRUM ROLL!]… Adrien Brody plays his brother, called only
    “Bloom” throught the entire film.

Here’s the earlier backstory from RUSHPRNEWS, from the backlot, with
    lots of background thrown in:

The nominations for a first name for Brody’s Bloom so far are:

    Aloisius Bloom
    Bombadil
    Ka
    Brandon
    Sullivan Bloom
    Brother
    Milo
    Rodrigo
    Orlando Bloom
    Theodore
    Melvin
    Ole
    Sonic Bloom
    Fox
    Romeo
    R.C. Bloom
    Keegan Bloom
    Brando
    Boom Boom Bloom

Nominations will be taken online until December 15. Send in your
    entries to: firstnameforbloom@gmail.com

Those who have already played the game are legion. Nominations have
come in from all over the known Bloomiverse, with one woman writing:
“Cool contest. Thanks for the heads up. I love contests like this.”
    She nominated “Brandon”.

A blogger wrote in: “I am confused. Where has it been confirmed that
Bloom is a last name in the movie? Maybe I missed a key clue in the
film, but I thought the names were first names for both. I thought
that “the brothers bloom” means that they both entered their prime.
Bloom discovers what’s important to him and his brother Stephen.
However, I might be wrong about this since, to tell the truth, I
hadn’t considered Bloom as a last name until now.”

A woman named Kayleigh entered the contest with this comment: ”
“My suggestion is Theodore. It has Greek roots, just like Penelope and
Stephen in the movie, so I thought it would fit. Also, Adrien Brody’s
character doesn’t seem like the type who’d want to go by or be called
Theodore (or Ted, or Teddy) to his face in public, which I thought
could explain why he is called just Bloom.”

Rachel wrote in to nominate “Sullivan” as Brody’s Bloom’s first name.
When asked how she heard about the contest, she said: “I heard about
it on a website at brodylicious.org, which linked to an article on
RUSHPRNEWS. I don’t really know why I have chosen ‘Sullivan’ as
Bloom’s first name; I was trying to find something to go with
‘Stephen’, Mark Ruffalo’s character. My mother named all her sons with
the same first letter, so I guess that’s where it came from. I also
thought of Sidney, but that seemed kind of girly.”

When director Rian Johnson heard about this contest, which by the way
has no connection with the studio distributing the film or with the
director at all, he wrote in to say: “This is very cool. For what it’s
worth (and most people who’ve seen the movie I think pick up on this)
the brothers grew up kicked around as orphans, just the two of them
fending for themselves. Stephen always just called his brother
‘Bloom,’ as a nickname, and both because Bloom didn’t like his first
name and because they were never in school or with the same parents
for very long, it just stuck. Also, at the start of the film, Bloom’s
problem is exactly that: he’s been living life through his brother’s
cons for so long, that he doesn’t really know who he is outside of
    their partnership.”

And he added: “Glad you liked the movie. Sorry for stealing your last
    name, Dan.”
